What You Need to Know When Fishing with Kids

Keep it Simple

When it comes to kids, the less effort it takes to get fishing the better. Consider setting up a spin rod for the tikes since all they will have to do it cast the bait or spinner to get started. Also consider fishing from the shore as boating can add many agonizing steps to fishing.

Let Them Help

Children will enjoy themselves more if they can be part of the action. Let them put the worm on the hook or hold the net, this way they will know they helped and be happy to part of the team.

Bring Snacks

Its likely no matter how hard the fish are biting, your little ones will get bored and cranky. To avoid them getting "hangry" (hungry + angry) bring sweet healthy treats like juices and fruits.

Start Small

Instead of waking up to drive three hours to a lake teeming with massive trout, consider going somewhere close with fish that will be easy to see and catch. A local pond stocked with hungry sunfish is a great place to start.

End on a High Note

Knowing when to call it quits is key to making an enjoyable experience for the kids. Try to finish the day with an epic memory such as a big catch and a peaceful release.
