According to reports, a new record has been set in Florida for the largest butterfly peacock bass. Caught by Felipe Preieto, the fish weighed 9.11 pounds and broke the previous record of 9.08 pounds which stood since 1993.
The fish was caught at an unidentified Broward County reservoir and was certified by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission in a statement on Friday.
FWC Commission Chairman Rodney Barreto told reporters “Anglers from across the country travel here to catch a peacock bass, which only adds to the tremendous economic impact fishing has in Florida.”
Peacock bass are typically found in Broward and Miami-Dade counties, but recent mild winters have caused them to migrate to the north.
