While fishing off the coast of Morehead City a father-son fishing duo landed a swordfish that broke a state record weighing over 500 pounds. Cary Carney and his son Brandon were fishing with 65-pound line when they caught the huge swordfish. Their electric fishing rod blew a fuse and they had to hand-crank the reel to get it onboard.
According to reports they spent two and a half hours fighting the sword fish and their boat was dragged 12 miles away. Once they pulled the swordfish on the boat they took it to EJW Outdoors and got an official weight. The swordfish came in at 504 pounds and is a new state record.
