In a devastating incident on Lake of the Woods in northern Minnesota, a specialized vehicle designed for ice-fishing transportation broke through the ice, resulting in the loss of one man’s life. The Cass County Lakes Area Dive Team was summoned to the scene after authorities received a report of a potential drowning near Flag Island on the lake. Subsequently, the dive team recovered the man’s body in approximately 10 feet of water during the afternoon.
While officials have been cautioning the public about ice conditions this winter, it’s reported that the ice at the location of the tragic incident was roughly a foot thick, generally considered safe according to local experts. The identity of the victim is being withheld until his family has been notified, and the authorities are conducting an ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
