Two Georgia anglers from Telfair County can now boast state saltwater fishing records, thanks to impressive catches they reeled in early May, according to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR).
Jason Rich, from McRae-Helena, battled a nearly 24-pound Almaco Jack on May 2nd near South Ledge and Navy Tower R3. This whopper surpassed the previous record of a 19-pound fish caught in March by Hayden Mundy of Midway, Georgia.
Not to be outdone, Molly Strickland of Lumber City landed a monster Blackfin Tuna exceeding 30 pounds on May 4th, also fishing near South Ledge. This catch smashed the prior record set in 1999 on St. Simons Island, which was a 30-pound, 8-ounce Blackfin Tuna.
