Field Reporter Fishing Reports recently highlighted an impressive catch by Nick Reynolds and David Caldwell. The duo, hailing from upstate South Carolina, have been avid fishing partners for the past 14 years, frequently embarking on trips out of Charleston, SC. Their preferred fishing spots include the ledge, known for yielding big grouper, snapper, and other deep drop species.
Reynolds and Caldwell have mastered the art of deep dropping in depths ranging from 600 to 800 feet over various mountain ranges. Utilizing advanced Cmore mapping technology, they have fine-tuned their deep drop techniques. Their recent catches include notable specimens such as a 35-pound snowy grouper, a 21-pound yellowedge grouper, and a 52-pound Warsaw grouper, which they released. On June 29, 2024, they landed a remarkable 32-pound golden tilefish.
Their fishing adventures are facilitated by Caldwell’s reliable 32-foot Boston Whaler, newly equipped with Suzuki engines. Modern electronics, especially the Furuno system with Cmore mapping, have significantly enhanced their fishing capabilities. An essential tool in their arsenal is the electric reel, which enables them to retrieve their catch quickly, minimizing the risk of sharks or larger fish intercepting their haul before it reaches the boat.
