YouTube Fishing Star Ben Milliken Arrested Amid Tournament Fraud Allegations in Texas

Pro fisherman and popular YouTuber Ben Milliken has been charged with tournament fraud in Texas. Milliken, who boasts over 570,000 YouTube subscribers, surrendered to authorities after a warrant was issued by Nacogdoches County on Thursday, December 12, according to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD).

High-Profile Catch Raises Questions

In February, Milliken, a Nebraska native who moved to Texas two years ago, submitted a significant catch to the TPWD’s Toyota ShareLunker program. This program accepts entries from anglers who catch largemouth bass weighing 13 pounds or more between January 1 and March 31, offering participants the chance to win prizes up to $10,000.

On February 5, Milliken reported catching a 13.15-pound bass at Lake Naconiche in Nacogdoches County. The catch was notable as it marked the first Legacy Class entry from the lake since 2017 and only the second in its history. The fish was celebrated at the time, with TPWD highlighting its significance.

Fraud Allegations Surface

During a routine review this fall, TPWD officials uncovered that Milliken did not possess a valid fishing license when he caught the fish. Additionally, it was alleged that he knowingly falsified information on his contest and tournament entry forms. This discovery came before any prizes were distributed under the ShareLunker program.

As a result, Milliken was charged with fraud in a fishing tournament, disqualified from the ShareLunker program, and cited for fishing without a valid license. He surrendered to authorities on the misdemeanor charge and was released after a brief 29-minute booking, according to public records.

Milliken Responds to Allegations

Milliken addressed the situation in a multi-part statement on his Facebook page, Milliken Fishing, where he described the arrest as stemming from “a complete misunderstanding.” He clarified that the incident was unrelated to any elite or local fishing tournaments in which he has participated.

“In fact, the incident arose while I was recreationally fishing. And not in a tournament at all,” Milliken wrote. “I very much look forward to creating a video(s) explaining this entire situation. But due to ongoing investigation, it’s best I wait.”

Community Reaction

The allegations against Milliken have sparked debate within the fishing community. While some expressed support for the angler, others called for stricter oversight of high-profile fishing programs to maintain their integrity.

This incident highlights the importance of adherence to program rules and the significant consequences of violations, even for well-known figures in the sport. As the case unfolds, anglers and fans alike will closely watch its outcome.
