Wisconsin’s New Muskie Record Shattered: A 56-Inch Giant

A remarkable catch has been made on Green Bay, Wisconsin, as guide Jeff Van Remortel landed a 56-inch muskie that has set a new state record for catch-and-release fishing. The impressive fish measured 26 inches in girth and was caught using a Musky Innovations Swimmin’ Dawg.

The Record-Breaking Catch

Van Remortel, a seasoned guide with 16 years of experience, was fishing with client Mike Jacoby on June 4th, 2025. They were targeting a large weed flat on Green Bay when Van Remortel felt a crushing strike at the end of a long cast. After a thrilling fight, the massive muskie was landed and certified as the new Wisconsin catch-and-release record.

A Record That May Not Last

Despite the significance of this catch, Van Remortel believes that the record may not stand for long. In fact, just a few months after setting the record, one of his clients caught a 56-inch muskie that would have tied the record. Van Remortel has had multiple clients catch fish between 55 and 56.25 inches in recent years, suggesting that the record may be broken again soon.
