Anglers is Florida will see an extension of the red snapper season which takes effect this year. The recreational, summer, and fall seasons will be expanded under the new legislation. The recreational season will last 57 days, summer will span 45 days, and the fall season will be expanded to include the following dates: Oct. 8-9, Oct. 15-16, Oct. 22-23, Nov. 11-13 and Nov. 25-27.
Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission Chairman Rodney Barreto told reporters the new snapper schedule was created with working class people in mind.Β He added, “We looked at the data β¦ and we realized that if we added weekends and kind of broke it up, so it wasnβt just a concentrated fishing season, that it gave more people an opportunity. Especially working people who have to work during the week.”
The new dates were announced by Gov. Ron DeSantis when he joined Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officials in Destin recently, boasting the 2022 season will be the longest in the state’s management history.
