Last week a Maryland angler landed a 49-pound carp from Chesapeake Bay, breaking a record that previously stood since 1978. Logan Kurhmann was fishing in the Susquehanna Flats for bass when a huge carp hammered his plastic worm.
Kurhmann told the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, “We’ve seen some really big ones up in the Flats but we’ve never seen one this big. The bass fishing wasn’t great but this made my week.” The catch was as weighed on a certified scale at a bait shop, and was verified by a DNR biologist.
This breaks the previous record set in 1978 by Jimmy Lake who landed a 44.4 pound carp on Morgantown Beach.
