Former athlete Tim Still’s journey to success has been filled with determination and passion. Raised in Salisbury, he dreamed of making it big in baseball but faced disappointment after going undrafted. Undeterred, he continued to play the game he loved with various independent teams. Later, Tim ventured into sports reporting and held various jobs at companies like Wells Fargo and Citi.
During this time, he found solace in making metal fishing lures for his surf fishing trips. The lures were so effective that fellow anglers wanted to buy them. Inspired by the positive feedback, Tim decided to turn his hobby into a business. He founded Beach Bum Lures in 2017 and started mass-producing his handcrafted creations.
After being laid off from Wells Fargo, Tim fully dedicated himself to Beach Bum Lures, with support from former Wingate President Jerry McGee. His lures are now available in 11 stores along the coast and in Salisbury, including Fleming Candy Company, where he used to explore fishing gear as a child.
Tim’s journey from a baseball hopeful to a successful fishing lure entrepreneur shows how adversity and determination can lead to unexpected and fulfilling paths in life.
