While smallmouth bass often explore open water and structures during their hunt, Koenig emphasizes the importance of identifying isolated cover elements like wood or rock clusters. These structures serve as focal points for smallmouth bass, especially on deeper sand, gravel, and grass humps. Koenig efficiently uses MEGA 360 and forward-facing sonar to pinpoint these fish-holding spots.
Koenig advocates for a longer rod for improved handling and casting. He opts for a braided mainline to fluorocarbon leader setup, providing sensitivity and reduced visibility for better stealth.
