New Maryland State Record: False Albacore Caught Off Ocean City

A 22-year-old angler from Frederick County has set a new Maryland state record for false albacore, catching a 26.0-pound monster fish on July 20, 2025. Jack Dorman’s impressive catch surpassed the previous record of 23.5 pounds, which was set just eight days earlier.

Dorman was fishing offshore near the Jackspot and the 20-Fathom Line on the charter boat Game On, captained by Scott Stapleford of Ocean City. The record-setting false albacore was caught while trolling a skirted ballyhoo, and it was the first fish of the day.
