Record-Breaking Hammerhead Catch Sets Texas Fishing Ablaze

A Corpus Christi fishing guide has made headlines with an extraordinary catch – a 10-foot-8-inch hammerhead shark. Tristan Bardin, also known as Sharka Brah, guided his clients to this remarkable feat near Bob Hall Pier on September 23. The shark was safely released after a grueling hour-long battle.
The Catch
  • Size: The hammerhead shark measured 10 feet 8 inches, making it the third-largest hammerhead caught by Bardin’s business this year.
  • Location: The catch was made near Bob Hall Pier, approximately 500 yards offshore.
  • Fishing Conditions: Bardin dropped the line around 7 p.m. and landed the shark after an hour-long fight.

Bardin’s Experience
  • Previous Catches: Bardin has caught larger hammerheads, including a 13-footer and an 11-footer, earlier this year.
  • Record-Breaking: This catch marks the 10th shark over 10 feet Bardin’s business has caught this year, setting a new record.
Hammerhead Sharks in the Gulf
  • Size: Great hammerheads can grow up to 15 feet long, according to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.
  • Characteristics: Their broad, flat heads enable quick turns, and their eyes and nostrils are positioned at the outer ends of their head for enhanced visibility and smell.
