March’s Baitshop Life Beauty of the Month

Congratulations to Amy Kennelly! She is our Baitshop Life Beauty of the Month for March. You can find Amy on Instagram @amykennelly_, and we feature her and her awesome catches all the time on @baitshoplife and @baitshopcatch! Amy is one of our favorite anglers, and her dachshund Penny is a star as well! Here is some more information on this awesome female angler. Congrats Amy!

Tell us about yourself!

Hi! My name is Amy, and I am from Jacksonville Beach, Florida. I work at the Mayo Clinic Hospital and graduated with my Bachelors in Healthcare Business from the University of North Florida. I am a 5 year veteran NFL Cheerleader with the Jacksonville Jaguars. I’m also an angler with the Pelagic Pro Team. Most of all, I love spending time with my side kick, a mini dachshund named Penny!

When did you start fishing? And who got you into the sport?

I grew up fishing the creeks of Jacksonville for redfish, trout, and flounder with friends. My passion grew when I met my boyfriend, Capt. Trey Jones. Trey has taught me so much about fishing and continues to push me to be a better angler every day.

What is your favorite fish to catch?

I would have to say Redfish. They are so beautiful, give a great fight and are right in my backyard.

What is the most difficult fish to fight?

Blue Marlin in the Abacos!

Do you have a favorite lure or bait?

Lure would be Mirrolure. Bait would be live finger mullet.

Do you have a favorite place to or spot to fish?

Costa Rica, Islamorada and The Bahamas are all absolutely beautiful fishing locations. However, I would have to pick my local spot, Mayport, and this is why… “Our local waterways are a pristine ecosystem rich with diversity. The Mayport jetties are one of the longest jetties in the world. Add in multiple inlets, and the Intracoastal Waterway and you have a consistent flow of highways for the fishery to thrive. The mother of it all though is the St. Johns River, which is one of the largest northerly flowing rivers in the world, and is rich with nutrition to provide a breeding ground for a variety of prime species of sporting fish and the bait they feed on!” Rory Gregg, “Why the 904 is a world-class fishing hot spot,” Void Magazine, November 11, 2013, https://voidlive.com/why-the-904-is-a-world-class-hot-spot/

What are some of your other favorite hobbies?

I love to dance! Having the opportunity to do it professionally for the last five years has been a dream.
