Anglerfish like this one have been sighted all over the Pacific Ocean. One was found earlier this year in Laguna Beach, but it’s been 20 years since one was seen in San Diego.

Little is known about these fish which use the lure on top of their head to attract fish in the pitch-black depths of the ocean. Each time one of these fish is found it provides valuable information on the anatomy and behavior of this elusive species.
