Salmon Fishing Season in California has been Cancelled

Due to drought conditions that have been building over the past several years, officials in California have cancelled the salmon fishing season. Watch the brief news clip below and learn how this is affecting the fishing industry in the Golden State.

As you just heard this ban on salmon fishing is going to affect more than just tourism, it will also affect the angling and boating industries. Even though California is seeing more rain than it has in years right now, the lack of water over the past several years is why officials cancelled the season. Water allocation in the state often leaves the fisheries high and dry with most of the resource being used for agriculture needs.

Did you know that salmon take three years to reach adulthood? This means that a ban in 2023 will likely affect the spawning from now up until 2025.
