Cade Quick of Glennville, Georgia, has reeled in a trophy-sized dolphin fish — also known as mahi mahi — that officially ties the state’s saltwater fishing record. The impressive catch weighed in at 68 pounds, 9.28 ounces and was landed on May 5, 2025, near the South Ledge.
Quick was trolling offshore with a blue and white chugger lure rigged with ballyhoo, using 30-pound monofilament line on a 6-foot Offshore Angler rod. The massive mahi measured 56 inches long with a girth of 36.5 inches.
Under Georgia’s saltwater fishing regulations, any record-breaking catch between 20 and 100 pounds must exceed the previous record by at least 8 ounces. Because Quick’s catch matched the 2022 record, it will stand as a tie.
The Georgia Department of Natural Resources Coastal Resources Division will recognize Quick’s achievement with a signed certificate. He’ll also be featured in the upcoming Georgia Hunting and Fishing Regulations Guide and on the department’s official website.
